36 hours to/from Hakone

Perhaps it's just my in-law's lifestyle, or maybe it's a Japanese thing, but we did a lot of eating and hitting the onsen (bathes) during our trip to Hakone. I'm here having a green tea ice cream... there were only two choices, green tea and vanilla, just like back home. Also like just back home, we had ice cream 10 minutes before going to lunch.

After anxiously studying several choices in Hakone my father-in-law settled on this restaurant.

My My brother-in-law reminds me of my best friend Billy... an incredible eating machine! I love it when he comes along on our trips... he eats all of the truly scary things that the Japanese can dish up and serve. If I didn't see some of these things on other people's plates I'd think there was a conspiracy to gross me out or simply to push me to my culinary limits.

Very tasty.... noodles, veggies, soup, pickles (not just cucumber like in the US, but carrots and other veggies get pickled in Japan) and a little piece of tiramisù to wash the meal down. Oh, also a nice big beer. Umai!
